Guidance, Navigation & Controls
What do we do?
The Guidance, Navigation & Controls Subsystem is charged with the task of designing a system that can accurately predict the state of a craft and manipulate that state in a safe and stable manner. This state prediction includes the altitude, velocity, and geographical location of the craft. Manipulating the craft includes controlling altitude, attitude, and lateral movements while ensuring that it will not become unstable.
Meet The Team
Joseph A. Carini
Joseph Carini is from Broomall, PA and is pursuing a major in Aerospace Engineering with a minor in IST. He is expected to graduate on Spring 2021. Joe joined the team in Fall 2018 and is currently designing a system that can predict and manipulate the state of the craft. Aside from Lunar Lion, he has been a member of the Club Ultimate Frisbee team for his entire stay at Penn State. Also, he recently began a research position in the Industrial Engineering department where he has been refining methods of Metal Additive Manufacturing.
Luke Guyer is from Ridgway, PA and is majoring in Aerospace Engineering, expected to graduate in May 2021. Luke joined the team in Fall 2018 and is currently working on updating the Simulink model of Lynx’s vertical thrust to mimic a more realistic environment. This will help in the future when making a controller. Here at PSU, Luke plays the saxophone in the Penn State Blue Band. He is also part of the Sailplane Lab on campus, where he is currently working on the fabrication of a human-powered aircraft. Outside of school Luke likes to run, hunt, fish, and hike.
Josh Oslon is from Royersford, PA and is majoring in Aerospace Engineering, expected to graduate on Spring 2022. He joined the team in Fall 2018 and is currently working on the SImulink Model. He is also in the Penn State Racing Team and part of the LEV THON group.
Nicholas Evich is from Manchester, MD pursuing a major in Mechanical Engineering and a minor in IST. He joined Lunar Lion in Fall 2018. Outside of Lunar Lion, he is a math tutor for Penn State Learning, is training to be a licensed Reactor Operator at the Breazeale Nuclear Reactor, and enjoys playing hockey and exercising.
James Bennink is from Auburn, New York and is pursuing a major in Aerospace Engineering. He expects to graduate in the Spring of 2022. In his first semester at Penn State, he joined the Lunar Lion team. Besides Lunar Lion, he likes to read, workout, and play lacrosse.
